Gritty Kitty of Nitropolis is a casino slot from ELK Studios and the first game in this upcoming Nitropolis standalone series. It’s called the Battle of Nitropolis and will consist of four standalone games leading up to the final battle, Nitropolis 5. The back story is that the four clans try to reclaim Nitropolis, which Sergeant Nitro Wolf forced them out of. First out is Gritty Kitty, who is going back to the Nitropolis suburb Tokyotown in search of the weapon that could defeat Sgt. Nitro Wolf, the Golden Shuriken. A game stacked with features and two different bonus games is on the table. Let’s dig in!

Few games offer as many features as we’ve seen in the Nitropolis saga, and this one is no different. Gritty Kitty of Nitropolis Slot Information
The game takes place in a rundown Chinatown. Some sort of toxic gas is fogging the area, seemingly coming out of canisters on the top of a roof. When you trigger one of the bonuses, the scene turns into more of a purple color. It’s a bit unclear why, but it makes for a nice contrast.Â
Gritty Kitty of Nitropolis can be played on all common mobile devices and desktops. A winning combination is created by landing 3 or more matching symbols on consecutive reels, starting from the leftmost reel.Â
The lower-paying symbols consist of 10, J, Q, K, and A. A winning combination of 6 with one of these pays 0.3x the bet. The higher-paying symbols include tuna, pots, cats with masks, and Gritty Kitty. Six-of-a-kind with these pays 0.6x-3x the bet. There’s a whole bunch of other symbols present with various mechanics, but more on that in a bit.

What features are available in the slot Gritty Kitty of Nitropolis?
The features are Wild Symbol, Scatter Symbol, Feature Reel & Avalanche, Nitro Reels, Nitro Match, Nitro Wild, Nitro Upgrade, TnT Symbol, Big Coin, Big Symbols, Assassin Spins, Free Spins, and Feature Buy (X-iter).
Wild Symbol
Wild symbols enable more winning combinations by substituting for other paying symbols.
Scatter Symbol
Landing 3 or more Scatter symbols triggers the Free Spins feature.
Feature Reel & Avalanche
The Feature Reel on the top of the grid contains various feature symbols, empty symbols, and empty cells. When a win occurs on the main grid, the symbols will drop down on empty spaces.Â
Row Expansion
When a winning combination is made, the number of rows will increase by 1, up to a maximum of 8 rows.
Nitro Reels
During the spins, you can land Nitro reels and also big nitro reels on the grid. A Nitro reel contains 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 of the same symbol type corresponding to the size 1X1, covering two symbol positions. The Big Nitro reel contains 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 of the same symbol type corresponding to the size 2X2, covering six symbol positions.
Nitro Match
The Nitro Match feature replaces all symbols in the Nitro Reels with a matching payout symbol, selected at random.Â
Nitro Wild
The Nitro Wild feature replaces all symbols in the Nitro Reels with Wild symbols.
Nitro Upgrade
The Nitro Upgrade feature upgrades the number of symbols in the Nitro Reels.
TnT Symbol
The TnT symbol explodes all paying symbols on the same and adjacent reels. It is when no more wins are created that the TnT symbol is activated.
Big Coin
A Big Coin awards an instant payout when covering the complete Feature Reel.
Big Symbols
Instead of normal 1x1 symbols, symbols can also land in 2x2 or 3x3 sizes.Â
Assassin Spins
If a purple shuriken fully covers the Feature Reel, the Assassin Spins are triggered. You are awarded 3 spins, which reset every time you land a coin. Coins have values attached to them. For example, a coin with a 10 on it is worth 10x the bet.Â
During Assassin Spins, you can also land TnT symbols to explode the Feature Reel. This can drop down Nitro Reels containing several coins, Nitro Upgrades to increase the number of coins on existing Nitro Reels, and high-value coins. A golden collector is also available, which will collect all coins on the grid.
Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 Scatter Symbols triggers 8, 10, 12, or 14 Free Spins, respectively. During Free Spins, Nitro Reels and Row Expansions are persistent.Â
Feature Buy (X-iter)
The following X-iter buys are up for grabs:
3x = Activates the Bonus Hunt feature, more than tripling your chance to trigger a bonus.Â
10x = Activates the Big Block feature, guaranteeing that a Big Symbol lands on both the grid and the Feature Reel.
25x = Activates the Nitrofest, guaranteeing that a Nitro Reel will land on both the grid and the Feature Reel.Â
100x = Triggers the Free Spins feature.
500x = Triggers the Super Assassin Spins feature, where you start off with max rows.Â
Gritty Kitty of Nitropolis Slot Conclusion
Despite Pirots’ recent success and the possibility it overtakes Nitropolis, the Nitropolis saga must still be seen as ELK’s most legendary series. With four games released so far, the saga has constantly pushed boundaries mechanically and also potential-wise. They’re great at creating insane grids where it feels, or at least looks like it can explode and pay out millions on any spin.Â
Gritty Kitty is no different from the previous ones in terms of evident potential. With a recipe of big blocks, nitro reels, and coins, there are plenty of ways that this one can pay. The coins mechanic is brand-new to the Nitropolis saga, but certainly not new to the industry. In fact, we feel like it’s getting a bit overused. The concept of using coins as a paying mechanic itself is not bad, as it makes it easy to see what you’re about to win, but we’re getting somewhat tired of this specific way of applying it where you get 3 re-spins that reset when you land a new symbol, etc. It was made really famous in the Money Train-series, and nowadays, pretty much every provider has a game with similar mechanics, so we struggle to get too excited when we see another one. Â
However, when we look at this game as an isolated case, it’s a banger. For hardcore Nitropolis fans, the game is still staying true to the saga’s core with its regular bonus but also offers something we haven’t seen in a Nitropolis game before with the Assassin spins. Despite us having some complaints about ELK using a coin feature like this, it’s made interesting by the nitro reels and the potential they offer. For the first game in this upcoming series, we’re satisfied with what we got. We do, however, hope that they innovate a bit more on the gameplay in the next one.Â
