San Quentin 2: Death Row Slot Overview

San Quentin 2: Death Row is a casino slot from Nolimit City and one of the most anticipated sequels of all time. It feels like forever ago, but in 2021, San Quentin xWays hit the market, offering a max win of 150,000x. The potential was on a level we had never seen before, except for the odd jackpot game, and the potential has been proven countless times. A high max win alone isn’t enough to take a slot to legendary status, though, so Nolimit took the opportunity to combine a unique prison theme and sharp razors, resulting in a phenomenal product. Almost four years later, it’s time for Beefy Dick, Biker Bill, Crazy Joe, Henrich the 3rd, and Loco Luis to make a grand return. A return that consists of a 200,000x max win, an absurdly good max win frequency, and the most volatile gameplay ever made. Let’s dig in!

San Quentin 2: Death Row is a video slot from Nolimit City with a setup of 5 reels, 4 rows, and 1024 payways. Players can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.20 and a Max.bet of 100. The game has a default RTP of 96.13%, but there are also versions of 94.03% and 92.11%, so be on the lookout. It has a hit frequency of 26.90% and a free spins frequency of 1 in 299 spins. Lastly, this game is played at high (extreme) volatility and can net you a San Quentin 2 max win of 200,000x the bet, with a brilliant max win frequency of 1 in 1.52 million spins. In this review, we have also added a San Quentin 2 demo that you can enjoy to test the game for free on your own.

Mechanically, Nolimit has stayed true to San Quentin’s core and has kept a lot the same. The features of San Quentin 2: Death Row are Split Wild, Enhancer Cells, Green Mile Spins, Feature Buys, and Extra Bets.

San Quentin 2: Death Row Slot Information

Freedom was short lived. It’s time to head behind bars once again, this time you’re on Death Row! Oh and guess who you’re sharing a cell with? Yep, it’s Beefy and this time he’s jacked af! Returning to prison is never easy, the bright side is.....there is no bright side, you’re never seeing the light of day again. Just don’t drop the soap!

That’s how Nolimit introduces you to the game. Perhaps not the most inviting introduction, but one that fits Nolimit like a glove.

Base Game

San Quentin 2: Death Row can be played on most common mobile devices and desktops. A winning combination is created by landing 3 or more matching symbols on consecutive reels, starting from the leftmost reel.

The lower-paying symbols include empty toilet roll, gloves, dice, comb, and soap. A winning combination of 5 with one of these pays 0.2x-1x the bet. The higher-paying symbols consist of Crazy Joe, Biker Bill, Heinrich the 3rd, Loco Luis, and Beefy Dick. Five-of-a-kind with these pays 1.2x-2x the bet. A bunch of other feature symbols are also available, but more on that in a bit.

Split Wild

Wild symbols enable more winning combinations by substituting for other paying symbols. A Split Wild will split all regular paying symbols on its reel, creating more payways.

Enhancer Cells

On the top and bottom of each reel, there are locked Enhancer Cell positions. A reel’s Enhancer Cells are unlocked by landing a Scatter symbol on the reel. When opened, it will reveal one of the 5 higher-paying symbols, wild symbol, razor split, or xWays symbol.

Razor Split

The Razor Split splits all symbols on its reel. If a Razor Split lands on both the top and bottom Enhancer Cells, the symbols are split twice. If a Scatter symbol is split, it transforms into a Wild.

xWays Symbol

All xWays symbols reveal the same regular paying symbols and are stacked with 5 of them. If an xWays symbol appears on both the top and bottom Enhancer Cells of a reel, the entire reel will be covered by 10 Wild symbols.

Green Mile Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatter symbols triggers Green Mile Spins with 1, 2, or 3 Jumping Wilds, and 3, 4, or 5 unlocked Enhancer Cells, respectively.

You also get the option to gamble for an extra Jumping Wild. If the gamble loses, you lose 5 spins, up to a maximum of 5 Jumping Wilds. The 4th and 5th Jumping Wilds will start with a 2x multiplier on them. When reaching 5 Jumping Wilds, you are given a choice to risk losing 5 spins or getting the max win.

Before the bonus starts, you also get a chosen higher-paying symbol, and the reels spin to determine its multiplier.

Jumping Wilds will roam around on the reels every spin. When a Jumping Wild is hit by a razor split, its multiplier is doubled, up to a maximum of 512x. These multipliers are persistent throughout the bonus.

Landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 Scatter symbols awards 3, 4, 5, or 6 extra spins, respectively.

San Quentin 2: Death Row Slot Conclusion

Sometimes, a provider releases a sequel where too much has been changed since the original. And when a popular concept is altered, it risks losing what made it blow up in the first place. San Quentin is one of the last legacies we want to see get damaged, and we’re happy to announce that it wont. Because while some sequels get core-altering adjustments, San Quentin 2 remains very similar to its predecessor. But not too close, as one thing has been turned up to a level we have never experienced before; the volatility.

Nolimit City has a measurement system that ranks how volatile a game is. Before San Quentin 2, Tombstone R.I.P was topping that list at 66.85, with Folsom Prison coming in second at 43.49. San Quentin 2? 168. This means that this product is almost 3 times more volatile than Nolimit’s previously most volatile game, which some people thought was way too volatile. Now, volatility doesn’t always equal good, but we absolutely love that Nolimit is testing the boundaries here, releasing a game that goes harder than anything prior to it.

Mechanically, it’s still all about landing razor blades to boost your multipliers, but a few key changes have been put in place to create an even more complete bonus game. You have the gamble, of course, where you have the option to take a risk and add potency to the round. You also always start the bonus with 8 spins (unless you lost them in the gamble), compared to the first game, where it was a bit random. This removes the risk of you thinking, “damn it, I got so few spins this bonus”, as you’ll always start with the same. This, however, begs the next question. Isn’t 8 spins too little in this kind of slot? Well, Nolimit decided to add in the possibility of getting re-triggers, which enables bonuses with way more spins than you could ever wish for in the first version. And lastly, your chosen symbol multiplier starts at a higher number more frequently than it used to.

Listen, San Quentin 2 won’t cater to everyone. If you’re not interested in the most brutal of volatility, this is probably too much. But if you’re like us, and want to play games that can net you absurd wins, this comes close to perfection. Everything we loved with San Quentin 1 is carried over, but with some mechanical adjustments and crazy stats, this might just be the coolest game we’ve seen in this category.

San Quentin 2: Death Row by Nolimit City carries over the core of its predecessor but adds in some small tweaks to make it even more complete.
