When ELK Studios released Pirots in 2023, they weren’t sure whether it’d be a success or not. A year and a half later, it’s one of the most popular games ever made. The main reason for that is likely the CollectR mechanic, creating a whole new way for a slot machine to unfold, having characters roam around, picking up symbols instead of using traditional paylines or payways. With it being such a blockbuster, it was inevitable that other providers would look into the possibility of implementing the mechanic, and that day has arrived. Tanked is a video slot from Nolimit City with 6-9 reels and 6-9 rows. The xLoot (CollectR) mechanic is in play, so no paylines or payways are active. Players can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.20 and a Max.bet of 100. The game has a default RTP of 96.04%, but there are also versions of 94.06%, 92.04%, and 84.05%. It has a hit frequency of 20.17% and a free spins hit frequency of 1 in 249 spins. Lastly, Tanked is played at high volatility and can net you a max win of 25,000x the bet, with a max win frequency of 1 in 30m spins.

Tanked Slot Information

Instead of parrots, 4 warlords are gearing up for war, each riding tanks of various colors. It’s a pretty cool setting, but at times, it doesn’t feel as clear and easy to follow as Pirots did.

Tanked can be played on most common mobile devices and desktops. A winning combination is created by one of the warlords collecting a symbol with a matching color.

The lower-paying symbols include blue and turquoise gems. These pay 0.05x per symbol. The higher-paying symbols consist of green and red gems. Collecting one of these pays 0.10x-0.15x the bet. The payouts may seem low, but an overall multiplier is in play to boost it. Plenty of other feature symbols are also available, but more on that in a bit.

xLoot

The 4 warlords come in different colors, and will collect any paying symbol with the same color or feature symbol adjacent to them horizontally or vertically. 

Wild Symbol

Wild symbols substitute for paying symbols and can be collected by any adjacent warlord. 

Tank Boosters

There are 4 different types of Tank Boosters that can be picked up by warlords:

Rocket

The warlord will shoot the wall close to any random enemy warlord. The explosion will remove all enemy warlords and payout symbols in the explosion pattern and increase the grid size by 1 step. 

Grenade

The warlord will throw the greande at a random enemy warlord. The explosion will remove all paying symbols in the explosion pattern.

Power Drill

The warlord with a Power Drill will drive to the largest cluster on the grid that matches with the colour of the warlord. It removes all enemy Warlords, Payout symbols, and Wilds in its path and picks up Tank Boosters, Multipliers, and Bonus Symbols.

Airstrike

The warlord hits up to 3 enemy warlords, creating an explosion of symbols. 

xBomb & Barrel Bomb

xBombs & Barrel Bombs only explodes if there is no warlord movement and no Tank Boosters are available. The xBomb removes all paying symbols in the explosion pattern and increases the overall multiplier by 1. The Barrel bomb removes all paying symbols in the explosion pattern and expands the grid vertically or horizontally by 1 step. 

Booms

When 3 warlords are next to each other and none of them can move, the warlords will explode and remove all paying symbols in the explosion pattern. 

When 4 warlords are next to each other and none of them can move, the characters will explode and remove all paying symbols on the grid and increase the size of the grid by 1 step.

Kill Count

When a warlord is in an explosion pattern of any Tank Booster, xBomb, Barrel Bomb, or a Boom, they lose 1 life. When a warlord has lost 3 lives, it will be considered as killed and gets removed from the grid along with all of its corresponding symbols. 

xNudge Wild

The xNudge Wild will nudge down to the bottom position of the grid or until it hits a non-paying symbol. If there is no multiplier when the xNudge lands, it will set the multiplier to 2. It then increases the multiplier by +1 for every step it nudges. 

xSplit

The xSplit symbol splits all paying symbols horizontally or vertically, doubles their sizes, and then converts itself into a Wild. It also doubles the value of any multiplier that is hit by the split.

Grid Expansion

Various features we’ve mentioned can increase the grid size to a maximum of 9x9. The grid will be immediately expanded to 9x9 if an xBomb or Barrel Bomb are in the explosion pattern of any Tank Booster.

Carnage Spins

Collecting 3 Bonus symbols awards 5 Carnage Spins. Multipliers, Kill Count, and Grid Size are carried over from the basegame trigger spin. During Free Spins, the overall multiplier, grid size, and kill count are persistent and don’t reset between each spin. 

Carnage Royale

Collecting 4 Bonus symbols awards 7 Carnage Royale spins. Multipliers and Kill Count are carried over from the basegame trigger spin. The grid will be set to 9x9 and a +5 multiplier on top of the current multiplier is carried over. 

Mayhem Spins

If all warlords die in the same explosion during one of the bonus games, it will be upgraded to Mayhem Spins.

During Mayhem Spins, the grid is set to 9x9 and a +10 multiplier is added on top of the current multiplier. Also, all warlords live’s will be set to 1. Mayhem Spins can be retriggered if all warlords die in the same explosion. This awards 1 extra spin and +10 multiplier.

Max Win Symbol

If the 3x3 Max Win Symbol is completely visible on the grid, you are instantly awarded the max win of 25,000x the bet. 

Feature Buys

The following Feature Buys are up for grabs:

100x = Activates Carnage Spins.

300x = Activates Carnage Royale.

500x = Activates Mayhem Spins.

260x = Awards Lucky Draw, giving you a 40% chance to get Carnage Spins, 40% chance to get Carnage Royale, and 20% chance to get Mayhem Spins.

5000x = Activates God Mode, giving you a spin where big Cash Prizes and the Max Win Symbol are a lot more common.

Extra Bet

3x = Makes each spin 4 times more likely to trigger a Bonus Game.

40x = 4 Random Tank Boosters are randomly distributed to warlords.

Tanked Slot Conclusion

When we first started spinning Tanked and realized that it, in its core, was a 1:1 Pirots copy, we thought that it was a cheeky move from Nolimit City. But we then remembered how much we love the concept, and the more providers that give it a go, the more it will improve. It’s similar to the Video Game industry, where companies constantly “steal” each other's ideas, which results in epic products for us players. 

Now, we can’t really give Nolimit credit for the xLoot mechanic, as it is identical to ELK’s CollectR, but we’re happy that they decided to use it. It’s certainly a whole lot more chaotic than Pirots, and we’re not saying that in a positive or a negative way; we're just stating the fact. For one, it’s naturally more volatile, coming from the most volatile provider out there. On top of that, the sheer number of mechanics and feature symbols is crazy. Reading the feature list gave us a headache, but if you’ve played Pirots, you’ll get the hang of it quickly. Although it happens in many different ways, the way to win big is through collecting Cash Prizes or increasing your multiplier and collecting big clusters. Just like in Pirots, in other words. 

Nothing may ever beat the hype that Pirots started, but Tanked will be very interesting to follow. We believe that the rather forgiving math model of Pirots helped make it popular, as it got hugely prominent among new/novice slot players. This one will certainly not be as forgiving, but will also net bigger wins more frequently.
