Some of you may not have heard about Light & Wonder, which makes the fact that it’s an industry powerhouse all the more interesting. The company was founded back in 1973 as Scientific Games Corporation. At the time, it was pioneering instant lottery tickets, and it would take until the year 2000 when Scientific Games entered the casino gaming industry. In 2022, Scientific Games rebranded as Light & Wonder, but a whole lot happened between 2000 and 2022 to push the company into the position they are today.
What makes them relevant in mainstream iGaming is some of the acquisitions they’ve made over the years. With providers like WMS, NYX, and ELK Studios under their wings, Light & Wonder is a big name in the industry, even though many players may not have heard of it.

Although Light & Wonder has an in-house studio making Light & Wonder slot games, it’s usually not the type of games that hits big in the mainstream community. Thankfully, they have ELK to reach that audience. With games like Pirots, Cygnus, and Nitropolis, very few providers can match ELK’s catalog, and they will undoubtedly thrive for years to come.
