Well, it sure is hard to tell any difference at all when loading up Blueprint’s next release. The graphics are pretty much identical and even when you start spinning, you might think that you’ve pressed the wrong version. However, the bonus game and the choices you make in it have received some interesting tweaks, so this one might be interesting to take a look at after all. Let’s dig in!

Players can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.10 and a Max.bet of 10. Visually, there’s been very minor tweaks made to the game. We’d like to think that the graphics are a bit sharper, but it could just be us looking for it, intensely. It’s been 5 years since the predecessor to this was released, so we were certainly hoping for more in that department. 

Vikings Unleashed Reloaded can be played on all common mobile devices and desktops. A winning combination is created by landing 3 or more matching symbols on consecutive reels, starting from the leftmost reel.

The lower-paying symbols consist of 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A. A winning combination of 6 with these pays 1x-1.5x the bet. The higher-paying symbols include a wizard and three different vikings. Six-of-a-kind with these pays 2x-50x, with the red symbol being the highest-paying. There are also Scatter symbols with “free spins” written on them, and Mystery symbols depicted by hammers, but more on that in a bit.

Wild Symbol

Wild symbols enable more winning combinations by substituting for other paying symbols. These can only land in the top row. 

Scatter Symbol 

Landing 4 or more Scatter symbols (free spins) triggers the Free Spins feature.

Mystery Symbol

Mystery symbols in the form of hammers can land on any reel. When they do, they will all transform into the paying symbol.

Tumble

Each symbol part of a winning combination will be removed, allowing new ones to drop down. 

Free Spins

Landing 4 Scatter symbols awards 12 Free Spins, with an additional 5 for each extra Scatter symbol. Before you start the bonus, you have the options to gamble, thus upgrading the feature. This is where the game’s major change comes into play. Like in the first version of this game, you can gamble the Free Spins, to a maximum of 30, and the starting multiplier to a maximum of 10x. However, you can now also choose to gamble the minimum megaways, which is an important factor in any progressive multiplier megaways game. Keep in mind that if you land in the red zone in any of your gambles, you lose out on the bonus.

After that has been dealt with, you’re introduced to a very straightforward bonus game. For each winning tumble, the overall multiplier is increased by 1. Landing 3 or 4 Scatters will also award an extra 5 or 10 spins, respectively.

This game is just taking re-skinning of slots to a whole new level. Blueprint has decided to use the exact same skin as in the game released five years ago, and that doesn’t make us tingle. There’s nothing wrong with the visuals, and the theme is great fun, but a bigger overhaul could’ve been made to push the game to the next level and make a bigger deal out of it. 

As mentioned, the only major change to the game is that you can choose to gamble for more minimum megaways. We always give credit where credit’s due, and this is a very nice addition. However, this also means that the only change in the game caters to people who are willing to risk losing the bonus game when triggered. Furthermore, megaways games are known for being relatively hard to bonus, so the gamble mechanic might mostly be relevant for players buying bonuses, making the change even more irrelevant. 

Although we are disappointed in the lack of innovation and changes, the core of this game is extremely solid and the music is great, so it’s still worth checking out, at least for nostalgia.
