There are more traditional titles embracing the very basics of reel spinning, but there are also games that introduce engaging mechanics, trying to improve the connection with the players by allowing them to interact with the features. One such slot produced by Slingshot Studios, a Games Global exclusive studio partner, came up on our radar just recently.

The studio’s latest, Cash Crusade ASSEMBL'EM™, released on 1 April 2025, teases with its enigmatic title, and today, we have the pleasure to shed some light on this intriguing game by speaking with Richard Vermaak, Creative Manager at Slingshot Studios.

Q: Hello, and thank you for joining AboutSlots in this Q&A. We must say the game looks impressive right from the first moments and instantly gives a feeling of kingdom-building mobile games, which have been so popular in recent years. Is that where the inspiration comes from?

A: Thank you for having us! We're thrilled to hear that the game resonates with you in that way. While we definitely took some inspiration from the engaging mechanics of kingdom-building mobile games, our goal was to blend that level of interactivity with the excitement of a slot experience. We wanted to create a game where players feel more involved in the action rather than just watching reels spin, and that led us to develop the ASSEMBL'EM™ feature.

 

Q: Could you reveal some more details about the ASSEMBL'EM™ feature? How does it work exactly, and how does it engage the player?

A: Absolutely! The ASSEMBL'EM™ feature is designed to add a layer of engagement and anticipation to the game. Players collect different cards throughout their gameplay sessions, which they can then use to customise their feature experiences. The more they collect, the stronger the potential rewards. It’s all about giving players more agency in their experience, making each session feel unique and personalised.

Q: The high-quality graphic elements and features in the game is truly impressive. How long did you work on this production?

A: It’s been a labour of love! From initial concept to final polish, the game has been in development for just shy of over a year. We put a lot of effort into ensuring that every visual element, from the character designs and backgrounds to the reactive effects and animations, creates an immersive experience for players to enjoy. Our team worked tirelessly to bring the medieval fantasy theme to life in a way that feels both fresh and engaging.

 

Q: Were you inspired by something particular when designing the feature, or was it a completely random idea that just felt good from the start?

A: It was a mix of both! We wanted to explore a new way to engage players beyond the traditional spin-and-win format. The idea of collecting and assembling different cards into something that had a meaningful impact on the player experience felt like a natural fit. Once we started play-testing early builds, we quickly realised the potential of the concept, and everything just clicked from there.

 

Q: Do you believe that having players interact with the game and make choices of their own is a key to success, creating a stronger bond with the product?

A: Definitely. The gaming industry has evolved, and players today are looking for more than just passive entertainment. Giving them choices and a sense of progression keeps them entertained in the experience. The ASSEMBL'EM™ feature is designed to tap into that desire for interaction while still maintaining the core thrill of slot gaming.

 

Q: Within the last decade, we've seen several attempts from various studios to create interactive, progressive games. However, they didn't seem to achieve a massive success. What makes your feature stand out?

A: That’s a great question. We believe the key difference lies in the balance we’ve struck between interactivity and familiarity. While some interactive slots in the past may have leaned too heavily into complexity, we’ve ensured that our mechanics remain intuitive and rewarding. Players won’t feel overwhelmed—they’ll feel empowered. It’s about enhancing the slot experience, not replacing it.

Q: We've noticed that the Invading Wilds is a feature you used a while ago in the Cash of Kingdoms release. Is it due to its exceptional performance in that game?

A: Well spotted! Invading Wilds was a fan favourite in Cash of Kingdoms, and we saw an opportunity to bring it back in a way that complements the mechanics of Cash Crusade ASSEMBL'EM™. It brings a great balance along-side the Extra Wilds feature and when triggering the Combo Free Spins they play really well off each other.

 

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to mention about your upcoming release that could encourage players to give it a go?

A: We’d just like to say that this game is all about having fun while feeling a deeper connection to the action.
